LIFE MODEL Artist of the Week in Scotland On Sunday

Scotland On Sunday, 3 September 2017, Life Model

When Life Model’s guitarist Christopher T Smith advertised for a singer, he probably didn’t expect that vocalist Sophie Evans would move to the city from Newcastle, having penned lyrics for half the songs he had written.

Four years on and the Glasgow band have established themselves as torch bearers of the classic C86 indie pop sound, wooing festival goers at events including Lost Map’s Howling Fling, Doune The Rabbit Hole and King Tut’s Summer Nights.

Lucky, which was released in July on Durham-based label Frux Tapes and recorded by Smith and Tuff Love’s Susan Bear. An aural picture well-worth checking out, it is guaranteed to appeal to fans of the latter’s band as well as contemporary indie-pop acts such as Veronica Falls.

Life Model play play several dates in Glasgow over the coming weeks, as well as a benefit for Music For Mental in Bathgate on 30 September. Visit www.facebook.com/LifeModelMusic

ONR. Artist of the Week in Scotland On Sunday

Scotland On Sunday, 27 August 2017, ONR.

ONR. is the brainchild of singer-songwriter Robert Shields, from Dumfries & Galloway.

Shields spent some time state-side last year, touring and writing, and it has paid off, with the announcement that he’s signed a deal with the US branch of Capitol Records.

Drawing comparisons to the likes of Arcade Fire and Depeche Mode, new single Jericho is a synth-laden, electro-pop gem – catchy, and with interesting lyrics and some dark overtones. Early support comes from Los Angeles radio stations KCRW and KCSN and, in the UK, Clash Magazine and Jim Gellatly on Amazing Radio.

Produced by Mark Crew (Rag & Bone Man, Bastille), an EP is set for release later this year.
ONR. play the main stage at Electric Fields Festival on Friday. Watch a lyric video for Jericho at http://bit.ly/ONR-SoS and find more information at www.onrhq.com
