FROM OLIVE US TO OLIVE YOU featuring POCKET KNIFE Artist of the Week in Scotland On Sunday

Scotland On Sunday, 17 December 2017, From Olive Us To Olive You, Pocket Knife

The latest addition to the consistently brilliant Olive Grove Records roster is Pocket Knife, a Glasgow-based synth-pop duo who feature on Christmas compilation album ‘From Olive Us To Olive You’ released on Friday.

Pocket Knife’s Half The Presents is the stand-out song, with deadpan vocals and imaginative lyrics. Another highlight is a duet featuring Carla J. Easton (TeenCanteen/Ette) and Eugene Kelly (The Vaselines). The album also features Randolph’s Leap, Henry & Fleetwood, Jo Mango, The Son(s), Woodenbox, State Broadcasters and Campfires in Winter.

All proceeds are being donated to CDH, a charity that supports families affected by Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia, which includes label boss Lloyd Meredith’s son Luke.

SAVAGE CUT featuring LEYLA JOSEPHINE Artist of the Week in Scotland On Sunday

Scotland On Sunday, 3 December 2017, 100 Fables

Never mind Beyonce’s pairing with Ed Sheeran – this year’s best musical collaboration comes courtesy of Savage Cut and Leyla Josephine. The West Lothian post-rock trio, who use vocal samples or invite other artists to provide spoken word or singing, approached the Glasgow poet after discovering her on Youtube. The result is the amazing Andy From Finance, the story of an alcohol-fuelled night with a Richard Branson-obsessed colleague.

One of our favourite tracks of 2017, it complements a repertoire which has seen the band record with a diverse range of guest vocalists including a children’s choir and the frontman of punk pioneers Cock Sparrer reciting a 1917 speech by Red Clydesider, John MacLean.

Savage Cut are currently working on a project with local schools to nurture young bands but are planning to squeeze some recording time of their own in the New Year. We look forward to hearing the results. www.facebook.com/savagecut and www.leylajosephine.co.uk
