FOREIGNFOX Artist of the Week in Scotland On Sunday

Scotland On Sunday, 2 July 2017, Foreignfox

Foreignfox are a five-piece indie-rock band from Dunfermline.

They released their excellent new EP ‘I Used To Be a Bellydancer’ on 12-inch vinyl via Scottish Fiction Records on Friday, picking up airplay from Vic Galloway on BBC Radio Scotland, Amazing Radio and BBC Radio nan Gàidheal. It’s also currently streaming on the Scottish Alternative Music Awards website http://bit.ly/Foreignfox-SAMAs

Jonny Watt’s emotional, raw vocals and Scottish-twang showcase authentic lyrics, with the music often gradually building towards gloriously epic choruses.

Foreignfox play today at Edinburgh’s Assai Records, with a headline set in Glasgow as part of King Tut’s Summer Nights Festival on 20 July. Other dates include Blackthorn Festival in Stockport on 22 July, a Nordoff Robbins Scotland fundraiser at Glasgow’s ABC on 19 August and Edinburgh’s The Voodoo Rooms on 15 October. ALEX MAXWELL Artist of the Week in Scotland On Sunday

Scotland On Sunday, 11 June 2017, Chris Greig

Hailing from Dumfries, Alex Maxwell first came to our attention at our Wide Days conference, where he was one of only a handful of artists to receive positive feedback about his music on our “A&R You Brave Enough” session.

He has performed local festivals like Eden and Electric Fields and featured in various blogs. Maxwell’s debut single, The Want Comes In Waves, also the title of his debut EP, has a clear Frightened Rabbit influence (no bad thing) and features Lissa Robertson enabling sweet girl/boy vocal harmonies.

Scotland on Sunday readers can watch the video for the single below or visit: https://youtu.be/NtLIzbQ7FWs

Live dates include 1 July at Kelburn Garden Party, 20 July at The Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh, 28 July at Mugstock Festival (full band set) and 9 September at The Live Lounge in Dumfries. For more info see www.alex-maxwell.com
