BREWBAND Artist of the Week in Scotland On Sunday

Scotland On Sunday, 10 October 2017, Ashton Lane

Australian-born dancer and choreographer Mark Brew has an impressive CV spanning both hemispheres. In 2009 was appointed associate director of the Scottish Dance Theatre and has since built strong ties with Scotland’s music community adding Brewband to his long list of illustrious projects.

Set to perform a series of dates between 19-28 October, including a performance at the Spree Festival in Paisley, it teams Scottish indie stalwarts including Emma Pollock, Graeme Smillie, Jill O’Sullivan and Peter Kelly with a cast of dancers. Brew describes it as “visceral rock music with delicate soundscapes” and the production has a strong focus on accessibility, offering audio description and sign language, as well as a touch tour before the show begins.

If the first recording, She, Carina is anything to go by, expect great things from both the gigs and any future releases. www.marcbrew.com/productions/brewband

FOGGY CITY ORPHAN Artist of the Week in Scotland On Sunday
Scotland On Sunday, 24 September 2017, Foggy City Orphan

Glasgow quartet, Foggy City Orphan combine family members with school friends – brothers John and Paul McLinden on guitar and vocal duties,  and Michael Valente on bass and Stephen Sweeney on drums.

Taken from their debut album, which was produced by Paul Savage (Mogwai, Franz Ferdinand, Arab Strap), the band release excellent new single Fake News Blues on 9 October. It’s a short, sharp slice of topical indie/rock social commentary, poking fun at Trump and fake news in general.

The single has gained airplay from Steve Lamacq and Tom Robinson on BBC 6 Music, Billy Sloan via BBC Radio Scotland and they played XpoNorth and TRNSMT Festivals earlier this year.

Catch them live on 26 October when they headline a BBC Introducing gig at Glasgow’s King Tuts.
