Jamie & Shoony, Scotland On Sunday, 17 April 2016
Jamie & Shoony first gained attention four years ago when they played a guerilla gig in an Edinburgh supermarket and posted the performance on youtube. Since then they have since added a rhythm section and carved out a reputation for their rousing live shows which appeal to an extremely broad audience, and which invariably involve crowd surfing.
Yet although they have played everywhere from strip clubs to Linthlithgow Palace, as well as dozens of festivals, the band only recently got round to releasing a single. With its driving guitars, pounding rhythms and a chorus which induces the listener to simultaneously sing along and jump around, it brilliantly captures the energy of their live sets.
Jamie & Shoony are now lining up their next release, Settle Down, and Glasgow shoppers should look out for some exotically disguised individuals on Saturday, when the band plan to film their new video in a variety of disguises.
Before then, they are due to headline Hempfest on Glasgow Green (20 April) and have dates in Perth, Kilmarnock, Lockerbie, Brodick and Dunfermline over the coming weeks. These culminate in a support slot for Sugarhill Gang and Grandmaster Flash at Edinburgh’s Liquid Room 4 June [click for tickets] Expect the audience to be very warmed up by the time the hip hop masters take to the stage – Jamie & Shoony are a musical force to reckon with.
