E M I L I E Artist of the Week in Scotland On Sunday
Scotland On Sunday, 11 September 2016, Emilie

Edinburgh’s Emily Atkinson aka EMILIE is the latest addition to the steady stream of talented young artists emerging from the capital.

The stunning single, Eyes For You, is taken from her debut EP I See You In The Darkness which is released via Stellar Recordings on Friday.

EMILIE teamed up with producer Mark Morrow, who has worked with numerous Under The Radar-featured acts including; Acrylic, Noah Noah, Jamie & Shoony, to create her excellent debut, an accomplished slice of dark, yet melodic electro pop.

Despite being a relative newcomer, EMILIE has featured on some leading blogs and supported rising electro star SG Lewis [mentored by Calvin Harris], at King Tuts earlier this year.

Her launch party takes place at The Mash House in Edinburgh on Saturday with support from David James Ritchie

Olaf Furniss and Derick Mackinnon, Scotland On Sunday, 17 April, Jamie & Shoony

Jamie & Shoony first gained attention four years ago when they played a guerilla gig in an Edinburgh supermarket and posted the performance on youtube. Since then they have since added a rhythm section and carved out a reputation for their rousing live shows which appeal to an extremely broad audience, and which invariably involve crowd surfing.

Yet although they have played everywhere from strip clubs to Linthlithgow Palace, as well as dozens of festivals, the band only recently got round to releasing a single. With its driving guitars, pounding rhythms and a chorus which induces the listener to simultaneously sing along and jump around, it brilliantly captures the energy of their live sets.

Jamie & Shoony are now lining up their next release, Settle Down, and Glasgow shoppers should look out for some exotically disguised individuals on Saturday, when the band plan to film their new video in a variety of disguises.

Before then, they are due to headline Hempfest on Glasgow Green (20 April) and have dates in Perth, Kilmarnock, Lockerbie, Brodick and Dunfermline over the coming weeks. These culminate in a support slot for Sugarhill Gang and Grandmaster Flash at Edinburgh’s Liquid Room 4 June [click for tickets] Expect the audience to be very warmed up by the time the hip hop masters take to the stage – Jamie & Shoony are a musical force to reckon with.
