Acrylic Artist of the Week in Scotland On Sunday

Scotland On Sunday, 24 July 2016, Acrylic

Since supporting The View on 1 January, Acrylic have gone on to win over audiences at key Scottish venues including King Tut’s, Nice’n’Sleazy, Fat Sam’s, Sneaky Pete’s and The Electric Circus.

Moreover, the Glasgow-based five piece have also been picking up plays from the likes of Dermot O’Leary on Radio 2 and the Roddy Hart Show on Radio Scotland.

Although they describe themselves as alternative indie-rock, the band have a more subtle sound than many of the acts who would put themselves in that category. On their new single, Overrun, the vocals suggest a crooner-ish yearning, while a jangly guitar provides a touch of summer lightness. The track, which was released on Friday is mixed by veteran producer Paul Savage, and comes a week after the band played Glasgow’s St Luke’s Festival.

Acrylic venture out of the Central Belt to play the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival on 5 August. Listen at www.acrylicmusic.co.uk/single/

Sweaty Palms, Scotland On Sunday, 26 June 2016

Scotland On Sunday, 26 June 2016, Sweaty Palms

Glaswegian quartet Sweaty Palms’ latest EP, ‘Love Me / Pretty Poor’ was recorded at Green Door Studios in Glasgow and is released on Friday on 7″ vinyl / download via new label Black Sheep Records.

From their social media posts and their lyrics, Sweaty Palms possess a wonderfully dark, observational humour in all that they do. And while ‘Love Me / Pretty Poor’ is a refreshingly brilliant record, their brand of scuzzy, lo-fi punk and grunge is best experienced live.

They play tonight at the George Orwell in Dundee, on Friday at Glasgow’s Broadcast (their official EP launch), on the T Break stage at T In The Park on 10 July and at Edinburgh’s Sneaky Pete’s on 15 July. They then embark on a UK tour that includes dates in London, Cardiff, and Manchester, and perform at Electric Fields Festival on 26 August.
