FUTURE GET DOWN Artist of the Week in Scotland On Sunday

Scotland On Sunday, 25 June 2017, Future Get Down

One of the highlights of the recent XpoNorth showcase in Inverness, was a packed gig featuring two men dressed in bee-keeper outfits, with an additional three musicians providing a range of additional instrumentation. The band in question, Future Get Down, were formed by bassist Ally Dennis and award-winning brewer Oli Kass.

Both were in Edinburgh electro-groove outfit Homework and their new musical vehicle ploughs a similar furrow, albeit enhanced by the vocals of percussionist Jeanne Laidlaw. This winning combination is exemplified on the recently-released track, End Of The World After Party http://bit.ly/FGDUTR
With a handful of cool shows already under the belt, including at Edinburgh’s Caves and the Stag & Dagger Festival, the band’s next scheduled live outing is at the Electric Fields Festival. By then, we expect the other three bee keeper outfits will have finally arrived.

CALUM MACKENZIE JONES Artist of the Week in Scotland On Sunday

Scotland On Sunday, 28 May 2017, Calum Mackenzie Jones

Hailing from Moray, Calum Mackenzie Jones has packed an impressive amount of musical activity into the three years since he started playing open mic nights at the age of 13.

Drawing on folk, country, blues and Celtic rock, his debut single Your Man, picked up a spin on Jo Whiley’s Radio 2 show when it was released in February.

This followed on from a string of live slots in 2016 including XpoNorth, Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival, Speyfest and more. This month he released a charity single, The La La Song, which is due to be followed by a debut album, Wasted Days, on 21 June.

Get a taste of what is to come with the title track – http://bit.ly/utrcmjones on which Jones, plays every instrument (except fiddle). With bookings lined up for Eden Festival, Northern Roots, Seafest, Bootstock and Fur Folks Sake, we expect a lot more people will be hearing this promising artist in the coming months.
