Olaf Furniss and Derick Mackinnon, Scotland On Sunday, 27 March, Scumpulse
The casual observer of Scotland's music scene could easily be forgiven for thinking that when it comes to rock and metal, things don't get any more raucous than Biffy Clyro and their many copyists. However, Edinburgh band Scumpulse are living proof that a parallel universe exists in which every song goes up to 11.Describing their sound as "punk-infused black metal," the four-piece released their debut single Broken Reflection last autumn. It incorporates guitar skills last heard during the golden age of axemanship in the 1980s, while introducing social commentary to an oeuvre usually associated with other lyrical themes. Scumpulse are about to embark on their third UK tour, which begins on 1 April at Edinburgh's Banshee Labyrinth, where they will be headlining the nine-act bill at Vomfest, a festival they founded two years ago.For those that can't make it, they also play a mini set at our Wide Days festival on 22 April at The Electric Circus [click for FREE tickets]Listen at: https://soundcloud.com/scumpulse Olaf Furniss and Derick Mackinnon run run Scotland’s music convention, Wide Days, which takes place from 22-23 April in Edinburgh.
