Kevin Daniel Cahill
Classical/Contemporary Guitarist Kevin Daniel Cahill returns with his latest single 1989 from his forthcoming album Dynasties II. Intriguingly, some of the parts were recorded using the voice memo function on iPhone and also featured musicians from across the world.
Self-released on 16 October 2020 the new single, 1989 is an instrumental/cinematic track dedicated to the mid 90’s and is a direct continuation from the homemade and nostalgia driven ‘Dynasties’ project, which Cahill recorded entirely from home during lockdown. Daniel explained,
“During lockdown I recorded Dynasties I and II pretty much back-to-back in isolation. The Dynasties project became a very nostalgic, lo-fi based approach to making music. Both musically and aesthetically. Because of the lockdown, I wasn't able to leave my room/house (like everyone else) and I had very limited resources for making music. All of the albums were recorded on an 8 track, on iPhones and anything myself or the other musicians involved could get their hands on, it was by no means a studio recording - the result is an honest, homemade mixed tape of sorts. I also used it as an opportunity to reach out to a lot of different musicians and friends spanning a wide range of genres in effort to keep in touch and keep everyone's spirits high while doing what we love - making music. Especially now with the arts under such pressure, it's a pretty bleak time. I am really proud of both albums and the first was received really well!”
It showcases Cahill’s blistering electric guitar lines, mixed with 90’s inspired lofi hip-hop bass guitar. It also features world renowned drummer Ash Soan, bassist Daniel Brennan, percussion from composer/musician Rory Comerford and saxophonist Harry Weir (Aku! trio).
1989 is the first track from his new album and is released on 16 October 2020.
Recorded, mixed and produced by Cahill, 1989 is a dedication to the mid 90’s, mastered by Martin Ballesta, engineered by Luigi Pasquini, (who also featured in our Scotland on Sunday column with Pelts on 27 September 2020)
