Fourth Daughter, Scotland On Sunday, 17 May 2020
Words by Derick Mackinnon and Olaf Furniss. Read on Scotsman.com
Raised on a diet of Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk and Tears For Fears, it should come as no surprise that Fourth Daughter (aka Emily Atkinson) has a more than a passing penchant for 80s electropop.
However, her own compositions are more reminiscent of the following decade, boasting a laid-back house-infused vibe which have ended up on everything from the aptly-named Japanese reality TV show, Terrace House, to the in-store playlists at Topshop, Vans and Urban Outfitters.
Her latest single, Run, came out on Friday and is one of several where she has collaborated with Stillhound’s Dave Lloyd. Boasting a more dreamy feel than her previous two releases, it is the perfect accompaniment to the arriving summer and would sit very comfortably on a Café Del Mar compilation.
