Scotland has a long lineage of quality rappers, but recognition further afield has usually been elusive. Proud Aberdonian Ransom FA is on a mission to change this, ensuring that in a field dominated internationally by American and Landan accents, his Scottish voice is heard.
Since opening the ears of judges on BBC 3 series, The Rap Game, he has continued to build a solid fanbase, bolstered by some entertaining media appearances (check out his guide to Aberdeen on the iPlayer). Moreover, Ransom FA’s Spotify profile, where his biog simply says ‘One of Scotland’s finest exports,’ suggests his ambitions are being fulfilled – he has most listeners in London, while Paris and Sao Paolo are in the top 10 too. Nevertheless, he remains rooted to his home city where he has performed in schools, opened a studio to mentor the “young team” and recently launched Ransom Records.
A new EP, Momentum, was released on Thursday and has already enjoyed support from BBC DJs including Jack Saunders, Target and Nojan. It takes Ransom FA another step closer to putting Aberdeen on the rap map.
