Jen Ella, Cover To Cover, Scotland On Sunday, 14 March 2021

Frustrated by the high percentage of male acts featured by Spotify playlist Scotify, Fiona Liddell aka Gefahrgeist has produced a brilliant compilation album titled Cover To Cover. The LP is also raising money for the excellent Scottish Women Inventing Music charity, committed to achieving a level playing field for women in music.

The concept is simple but brilliant: musicians create a cover version of an original song by another female act. The participating artists are Gefahrgeist, Jen Ella, Sarya, Olivia Thom, Ceiti, Amie Huckstep, Mima Merrow, Post Coal Prom Queen, Chiara Baillie, PINLIGHT, Jen Athan, Francesca Ortisi and Aurora Engine and each of the 13 tracks on the album will be released as a single.

There are many highlights, but we particularly enjoyed Jen Ella’s (pictured) song Lipstick Queen covered by Gefahrgeist. Originally from Cork, Glasgow-based Ella has been featured by BBC Radio Scotland, RTE 1, performed at Celtic Connections and her brilliant new single Eyes For You was released on Friday, visit https://fionaliddell.bandcamp.com
