Robin Ashcroft, Scotland On Sunday, 7 February 2021
Words by Derick Mackinnon and Olaf Furniss. Read on Scotsman.com
At the age of 13 Robin Ashcroft started learning guitar by watching YouTube tutorials and soon found herself booked to perform at Glasgow Pride, making her the youngest person to play the event. That same year she also began taking part in open mics and writing songs, including her debut single, I LUV U which was released on Friday. Recorded before lockdown 2.0 in the legendary Chem 19 studios, it features the band Dogtooth on session duties, with Johnny Madden (BABY STRANGE) and Jamie Holmes (The Lapelles) overseeing production.
The track conjures up a sonic picture of Katy Perry singing over the guitar line from the Jesus & Mary Chain’s April Skies, and with the right support, it could be a massive hit. Still only 17, Ashcroft has already penned around 40 songs and is set to return to the studio as soon as possible. If her other compositions are as good as I LUV U, Scotland has a new pop star in the making. Visit https://www.facebook.com/RobinAshcroftOfficial
