yllwshrk is a musical collaboration which extends beyond the six musicians at its core and enlists a range of artists, including several from other creative fields. Their name is inspired by Frank Zappa’s contemporary classical album and swan song, The Yellow Shark, which he recorded with Germany’s Modem Ensemble. However, yllwshrk’s latest single, Pyramids, veers more towards the experimental side of Roxy Music, thanks singer Sam West’s vocal style and guest contributions by saxophone virtuoso Nick Roth and leading jazz light, Fergus McCreadie, on piano. The song is accompanied by an impressive video, directed by film-maker Eve McConnachie which features choreographer and former principal dancer of Scottish Ballet, Eve Mutso, along with Ellie Fergusson winner of BBC TV’s The Greatest Dancer. It sets the scene perfectly for the forthcoming I AM ALADDIN album, scheduled for a digital release on 16 October and pending a successful crowdfunder, also on vinyl. For details visit www.yllwshrk.com
